Hi! I'm Sofia, the host of Hot Mic Abroad. I started Hot Mic Abroad because I wanted to create a space for the real conversations, the ones that don't always fit neatly into an Instagram caption. I invite my friends on to share their experiences and stories with me, honestly and openly.

Moving to a new country is equal parts exciting and challenging. There are moments of wonder, and moments of loneliness. There are cultural discoveries… and cultural misunderstandings that make you want to disappear for five seconds. And let's be real: living abroad isn't easy. The language barrier alone can make you feel small, tired, or misunderstood, even when you're trying your best. Some days, you're proud of yourself for going places on your own. Other days, you miss home, the food, and your friends and family so much. You find yourself wishing you could slip back to a night market for just one hour, then stop by 7-Eleven and hear the staff call out, "Welcome in," like it's the most ordinary magic in the world. 🥺✨

This podcast is for all of us living on this Earth, no matter where you are. Whether you're far from home, building a life somewhere new, or simply trying to figure out who you are in the place you're in, I hope these stories remind you: you're not the only one.

I was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, and I'm a proud Taiwanese, now living abroad in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. My goal is simple: be real, be honest, be kind, have fun, and be ourselves. Because when we tell the truth about our lives, we get closer. And when we feel less alone, we don't just survive, we live fuller, braver, and softer at the same time. 🤍
